In the past weeks WakaWakas over 1000 WakaWakas were distributed in Iraq among Yazidi refugees in the Newroz camp thanks to The International Rescue Committee (IRC). This gives the refugees both light at night and a charger for their phones, which enables them to communicate with their families. In total over 3500 WakaWakas have been shipped to Iraq.
Furthermore, WakaWaka has received an urgent request for 7000 solar lights from CARD Europe in Liberia. The WakaWakas are needed by local Ebola health teams, treatment clinics and isolation centers that have no access to electricity. The solar lights will also be added to Ebola prevention kits, since prevention is the best way to contain the virus. By bringing WakaWakas to Liberia we hope to ensure the safety at night in areas that lack electricity.
