Solar lights to combat child labor in Mali

As part of its programme to free Mali from child labor, the National Union of Education and Culture (Syndicat National de l’Éducation et de la Culture) has distributed more than 900 WakaWaka lights in four areas in Southern Mali.

Were targeted the most vulnerable children (high risk of dropping out of school, working children, etc.) to enable them to study in the evening and be independent from the rest of their family. Reintegration and retention of former child labourers at school is essential for the eradication of child labor. WakaWaka lights show great results in terms of improving school performance of the concerned kids and in improvement in school performance is a factor that encourages the retention of children in school.
