Ivy Samarinda
Many women in Indonesia own a small business and live on less than $2 a day. The majority use dangerous, expensive kerosene lights and spend a significant part of their day providing their families with firewood and clean water. Through an innovative model based on financial inclusion, Ivy foundation and WakaWaka foundation provide these women with WakaWakas.
In March and April 2015, 9 WakaWakas were distributed mainly to women who are dependent on tapping electricity from their neighbors or on kerosene. WakaWaka is a reliable replacement for unreliable access to the grid or toxic fuels. The WakaWakas support the women entrepreneurs in their business and reduce the household costs on energy and light.
