The re­cip­i­ents of the WakaWa­kas are all wo­men in fam­il­ies who suf­fer from en­ergy poverty. These wo­men are un­em­ployed house­wives above 35 years of age with no or min­im­al edu­ca­tion­al train­ing. Not only do the wo­mens fam­il­ies suf­fer from en­ergy poverty, the fam­ily sources of in­come are also mea­ger. The ac­cess to sol­ar light im­proves the fam­ily in­come, health and edu­ca­tion.
