Lights in Mali

While we still have a few weeks of nice weather ahead of us, a camping trip should definitely be on your agenda. It’s the perfect moment to step away from daily routines, get some fresh air, and recharge in nature. Studies show that spending time outdoors improves both your mental and physical state, reduces stress, boosts your mood, and well, simply perks you up!

The targeted rural households make up the poorest group in an area that is very dry, in a country that is among the poorest in the world and in a region where the sun sets at six p.m. the whole year around. Providing these women with bright, safe, solar light increases school grades for the kids as well as income generating capacity for the mothers. A single WakaWaka Light provides light for families often consisting of ten people and being able to hold meetings after dark enables these women to form organizations and empower themselves. It is another example of WakaWaka’s ongoing mission to eliminate energy poverty and light up the lives of the 1.5 billion people around the world, who are living without electricity.

The Dogon Women Initiave stimulates and helps women in this region in Mali to enhance their quality of life together with that of their families. They offer them the opportunity to use micro finance for example to start a business, create new products or grow crops.
