Lights for the Community of Gunjur

In rural areas of Gambia, less than 5% of the population is connected to the electricity grid. The majority of the people rely on candles or kerosene for lighting at night. However, most people do not have money to light their homes every night, because these lighting sources are very expensive. The Intertrust Group has donated a total of 2880 WakaWaka Powers to different regions in Gambia so people have safe light at night and can charge their mobile devices. The majority of these WakaWakas have been distributed in Gunjur.

Local Programma manager Sandang Bojang: “The distribution of the WakaWaka solar lights and chargers among the schools and community of Gunjur has truly been a blessing. This has been the most successful and popular program Gunjur has ever seen. The need and demand for solar lights and chargers is great. Everybody wants to have one for their household. It is of great value to Gunjur and other communities in the Gambia.”
