It has been three months since the successful funding of the WakaWaka Base and we are making really good progress in the production process. We are in the final stages of development and are happy to inform you that so far, we are right on schedule! Delays are technically always possible, though not all that likely to happen in this stage.

Prototypes
The pilot assembly of the new and fully functional prototypes went great. We had to make improvements to water resist the bumper for the battery pack, and sourced a final form for the 7.5W and 10W solar panels to ensure the highest possible quality and performance. The rugged pouch and the packaging are still in development but while we sort that out, we are already in the process of mold making and purchasing components for the rest of the kit.

Field testing and assembly

This week, we are conducting tests by using the Base in the actual conditions it was designed for. When field testing is complete we will make any final adjustments needed. After this we can start the mass assembly!

CES 2015
Last month WakaWaka was back at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas showcasing our products and our social mission. In case you missed it, the WakaWaka Base was named a 2015 CES Innovation Awards Honoree. And Time magazine called the Base one of “the Most Ingenious Gadgets From CES 2015”. Which makes you as a Backer ingenious too!

You can't Fight Ebola in the dark
Following appeals from aid organizations in Liberia and Sierra Leone, we decided for each pledge on Kickstarter we would send a WakaWaka solar light to health workers, first responders and families battling the Ebola virus. 15,000 WakaWakas are now in West Africa as part of Ebola prevention kits containing essential supplies to help the courageous health workers fighting the spread of the virus. Thanks for making this possible!

Surveys
As said, we are confident that your WakaWaka Base will be delivered on schedule in May. And that's why we will ask for your choice of color (black, green, or yellow) in the next few weeks. We will also ask you for your shipping address at the same time.

We look forward to sharing more exciting news and updating you over the coming weeks and months. By funding the  WakaWaka Base, you are officially an #AgentofLight! Please continue to help us bring light to some of the darkest places in the world by sharing the WakaWaka story with your friends and family.

On behalf of the entire team,

- Camille
