Wij hebben van Jacqti van het Dogon Women Intiative een paar mailtjes ontvangen waarin dat erg duidelijk naar voren komt. Waar de vrouwen ook heen gaan zij nemen altijd hun WakaWaka met zich mee en wanneer zij thuis zijn dan hangen ze het op aan de muur om er zeker van te zijn dat het elke dag goed wordt opgeladen. De WakaWaka is daadwerkelijk een belangrijk onderdeel in hun leven geworden.<\/p>\n<p>Naast de WakWaka hebben de Dogon vrouwen ook micro-kredieten ontvangen die zij gebruiken om nieuwe producten te maken, zoals tassen en kinderkleding. De WakaWaka bespaart hun geld op twee manieren: ten eerste is het goedkoper dan het kopen van batterijen of kerosine voor de gevaarlijke kerosine lampen en ten tweede biedt het hen de mogelijkheid om te werken tijdens de avonduren. In Mali gaat de zon rond een uur of 18:00 onder, dus de zonnelampen levert ze een hoop extra tijd op die zij kunnen besteden aan het werken op hun naaimachines. De WakaWaka Light toont daarnaast ook succes bij een ander project van de Dogon vrouwen, een project waarbij ze mensen leren lezen en schrijven. Vijf groepen bestaande uit alleen maar vrouwen zijn begonnen met het volgen van alfabetiseringscursussen, wat een groot succes blijkt te zijn. Het geeft deze vrouwen meer onafhankelijkheid.<\/p>\n<p>Jacqi: <em>\u2018\u2018The lamps remain in the hands of the Dogon <\/em>women,<em> because they paid for them and they use them for their work. The women now earn something valuable and they earn more money <\/em>then<em> before. This strengthens their social position. They get more respect and more self-esteem. You should look into their eyes, they are shining! They are getting so happy of light!
